The Division of Student Affairs is committed to grounding our policies, programs, and procedures in antiracist practice. Reporting to the Associate Dean of Students, the Assistant Director is responsible for the management of the University’s student conduct process. This includes collaborating with Public Safety and Campus Life, serving as the primary campus leader for Maxient, (Conduct database) training, and communicating the student conduct code policies and procedures to the Campus community. They will work with the Coordinator for Restorative Justice to adjudicate student conduct cases and oversee and train hearing boards. The Assistant Director is responsible for evaluating the conduct process and recommending policy changes to the Associate Dean. They will work closely with the Coordinator for to review on and off-campus conduct referrals, communicate with parents and guardians regarding student behavior, as appropriate, and oversee the management of the Maxient student conduct database. Responsible for staying abreast of legal and other matters in higher education relevant to student conduct, including Title IX policies and informing the Associate Dean of Students when updates are needed. Using data from a variety of sources, the Assistant Director is responsible for creating, revising, and/or retiring programs and offerings to ensure alignment with the University’s Strategic Plan and the Thriving Student Model.
Periodically, this position may be asked to lead or contribute to either ad hoc or ongoing division/campus projects outside the scope of their day-to-day activities
Duties and Responsibilities:
Management of Student Conduct Processes:
- Communicate with residential life staff, and the Department of Public Safety, as needed, for clarification of incidents, including providing incident report feedback.
- Attend Duty Debrief as the representative for EDRP.
- Assign all allegations for cases in Maxient.
- In consultation with the EDRP team:
- Review reports received from the Department of Public Safety, including off-campus police reports.
- Determine the appropriate adjudication process.
- Utilize Maxient database for incident management and communication. Serve as a resource for campus partners using Maxient.
- Serve as the primary leader for training. Collaborate with the EDRP team and campus partners regarding training for Hearing Board members, residential life staff (including resident assistants), and the general campus community regarding the student conduct code policies and procedures including serving on University committees and representing student conduct as assigned
- In collaboration with the Coordinator, create content for student conduct informational sessions that occur in the beginning of each academic year (floor and building meetings as well as commuter student sessions).
- Identify conduct learning outcomes and the creation of sanctions to support them.
- Communicate conduct purpose, philosophy, and procedures to the campus community.
- Complete background checks, as needed.
- Stay abreast of legal and other matters in higher education relevant to student conduct and restorative justice.
- Provide support for the University mission and core values.
Student Conduct Adjudication:
- Assist with the adjudication of alleged violations of The Student Code of Rights and Responsibilities.
- Conduct administrative hearings, as appropriate.
- Serve as the Advisor to Critical Issues Boards. Coordinate logistics, identifying board members, impacted parties, and witnesses of Critical Issues Boards.
- Explain to students the University student conduct process, their role in the process, determine if violations of the Student Code of Rights and Responsibilities occurred and determine appropriate resolution.
- Assign sanctions consistent with the University mission and based upon the type of violation, developmental goals, concern for student’s and community’s welfare and in a consistent manner. Oversee the management of sanction completion including correspondence, notifications, and probation of managed cases. Follow-up with students on complete and incomplete sanctions.
- Inform and refer students to campus resources as needed, including, but not limited to wellness resources.
- Meet informally with students as needed.
Data Management, Assessment and Evaluation:
- Oversee the generation and distribution of the weekly student conduct report.
- Coordinate all evaluation and assessment for the EDRP department.
- Maintain records of Maxient data trends and produce reports, as needed.
- Respond to inquiries from other university departments about student conduct data.
- Coordinate the annual file purge process.
- Serve on the Student Affairs Assessment Committee.
Other Duties:
- Serve on university committees.
- Contribute to or lead additional division/campus projects outside of typical duties to help further accomplish student or organizational goals. Additional assignments may be seasonal, ad hoc or ongoing, depending on the project.

Job Requirements: |
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Three years of related experience in student conduct, higher education, and/or restorative justice required. Four or more years of experience preferred. A Master's degree may substitute for one year of required work experience, at the rate of two years of education is equivalent to one year of work experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in student development or related field preferred.
- Supervisory experience is strongly preferred.

- Ability to initiate, coordinate, oversee and complete various projects with minimal supervision.
- Possess strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced work environment; manage complex situations and ensure caseload follow-up is completed in a timely manner.
- Possess excellent human relations skills: ability to work with various University constituents including parents, students, trustees, administrators and staff employees, vendors; conflict resolution, decision-making and implementation skills; experience in a leadership and/or supervisory role.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational techniques; ability to remain calm under pressure and be able to multitask in a fast-paced environment. The ability to anticipate and solve problems.
- Possess strong interpersonal communication skills to work effectively with a broad range of diverse populations within an organization including effective listening, discernment, empathy and sensitivity skills. Possess exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Personal commitment to restorative justice and demonstrated ability to execute work from a restorative framework.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with FERPA Standards; refrain from and discourage the discussion of confidential information and maintain a constructive working atmosphere in the area of responsibility.
- Understanding of student development theory and the ability to put theory into practice. Keep current in the field of student development.
- Ability to become familiar with University history, departments, policies and procedures, personnel policies and specific governmental and other external regulations quickly.
- Work to advance the University’s goal of creating a welcoming and inclusive environment. Demonstrated cultural competence in the context of resolving student conduct cases.
- Moderate skills in the use of the tools and equipment listed below.
